The 2004 regional competition was held
at Northeastern University in Boston. Unfortunately, the
UMaine team was disqualified due to a "grate" error.

2003
In 2003 the team was rebuilt from
scratch. No one on the team had any experience with the steel
bridge competition or had even taken a steel course. We came
together each week for a few hours and designed the bridge. Cives
Steel was generous enough to pay for the fabrication of our design.
The 2003 team traveled to WPI to compete in the New England
Regional Steel Bridge Competition. The UMaine bridge was
disqualified after it became "unstable" during loading, however the
team learned a lot and were ready to jump into the next year's
competition.

1999
The 1999 University of Maine Steel
Bridge Team attended the New England Regional Competition at
Northeastern University in Boston on November 7th. While
students designed the 18 foot, under-truss bridge, the steel was
donated and fabricated by Cives Steel of Augusta. Although
Maine's bridge did not win the competition, it performed as well, if
not better than the team expected. The UMaine bridge won first
place in the aesthetics category. The University of Vermont and
Wentworth Institute of Technology received first and second place
respectively. These two teams traveled to Alaska to represent the
New England Region at National Competition next summer.

1998
The University of Maine Steel Bridge
Team attended the 1998 New England Regional Competition at Norwich
University in Vermont on November 14th and 15th. The 21 foot
span over-truss bridge was designed by students and fabricated by
Cives Steel of Augusta. Cives Steel also donated the materials.
Eight students and Professor Dana Humphrey braved an early snowstorm
and traveled to Norwich University. Six New England Schools
participated in the competition. Although UMaine's bridge didn't
perform as well as expected, it was a profitable learning experience
for the students. Merrimack College and Wentworth Institute of
Technology earned top honors at Regionals.
