lab report: Soil Mechanics Laboratory

Reports are typically due within 2 days from testing (for example: Monday testing, report due by Wednesday midnight).  Follow the "Technical Note" format as detailed in Prof. Maynard's Report Writing Guidelines.  Use MS Word (or equivalent) and upload your file to the FC folder.

Follow the guidelines and model of a Technical Note

To:      Amber McCormick
From:  {your name}
Cc:      {your writing partner's name}
Date:   {today's date}
RE:      Results of {Lab name}

The date the testing was performed

The soil description and classifications (USCS and AASHTO)

A summary of resulting data: usually highlighted in blue on the lab data sheets.

Results should be reported with an appropriate level of precision, considering how the test was conducted and the likely inherent errors.

Any relevant complications or issues.

Include figures and tables as well.

  • Objectives
  • Materials (apparatus)
  • Methods
  • Discussion
