Research Interest:
Dr. MacRae interests lie in Arsenic in
drinking water, Brominated flame retardants (BFRs) that act in
the environment. Resource recovery protein and chitin from crab
processing waste.
Current Research:
Dr. MacRae's teaching responsibilities include Introduction to
Environmental Engineering, Wastewater Process Design and special
topics courses at the undergraduate level; and Environmental
Microbiology, Water Pollution and Advanced Biological Processes at
the graduate level. Building on her background in life sciences
and microbiology, her research interests focus on the ways that
microorganisms affect pollutants. Areas of particular interest are
arsenic cycling in the environment, anaerobic microbial processes
for waste treatment and resource recovery, and biodegradation and
bioavailability. She joined the department in May of 1999.
